Verifying Seabed Conditions for Northern Tuas Basin
[Case Study]
The Results: Foundation of Geometric Certainty
For a massive reclamation project, accuracy and risk mitigation are non-negotiable. Our survey delivered the following critical results:
Seabed Clearance Guaranteed: We utilized a Magnetometer Survey to successfully map and verify the clearance of potential metallic debris and unexploded ordnance (UXO) across a 2 million m2 area. This was critical to mitigating construction safety and financial risk before dredging commenced.
Verified Baseline: We delivered certified pre-survey seabed baseline data using Multibeam and Side Scan Sonar. This established the exact, legally verifiable conditions necessary for regulatory reporting before any work began.
Positional Control: We established project-wide geometric and hydrographic controls tied to a high-accuracy RTK network. This guaranteed that all reclamation activities adhered strictly to certified engineering specifications and final design tolerances.
The Full Story: De-Risking Land Creation
Land reclamation demands absolute geometric certainty. Our role in the Northern Tuas Basin project was to act as the independent validator of both the seabed conditions and the final built accuracy.
Before any earth could be moved, we deployed a suite of geophysical tools. The Magnetometer was deployed first to ensure the entire area was free of UXO and large metallic debris that could damage dredging equipment or halt construction. Simultaneously, Multibeam Bathymetry provided a dense, three-dimensional map of the seabed, establishing the legally verifiable baseline. By integrating all these datasets and anchoring them to a high-accuracy RTK network, we provided the client with the essential data for securing permits, accurately calculating dredge volumes, and defending the final placement of the reclamation material. Our survey provided the foundation of trust and accuracy that this multi-billion dollar project demanded.
